Yes, to start. A new account gets 5 BuildBux and one build costs 5 BuildBux, so your first machine costs nothing. Opening your own build — the instructions, the parts list and the Amazon cart — is always free. Buying another maker's published build costs 4 BuildBux. Publishing a build of your own earns 1 BuildBux back, and 2 more every time somebody buys it.
Does it give me real parts I can actually buy?
Yes. Every line of the parts list is a real, orderable component with a current price, and the build email carries a one-click Amazon cart for the whole list. You buy the parts yourself — GADGET UP never handles your money, your card or your address.
Can I 3D print it?
Yes. Every build comes with an interactive 3D model you can spin, explode and inspect in the browser, and STL export is free with an order, so any printable part goes straight into a slicer.
Are the engineering numbers guessed by an AI?
No. The physics is deterministic. Torque, current draw, battery runtime, gear ratios, wire gauge and mass are computed in code, not written by a language model, so the same machine gives the same numbers every time. The AI chooses the approach; the code does the arithmetic. Everything is still an estimate — check it before you build.
What exactly do I get for one build?
A named machine with a full parts list and prices, the wiring connection by connection, numbered build steps, firmware for the microcontroller, a safety review, an interactive 3D model, and a one-click Amazon cart for the parts.
Do I need to know how to code or solder?
Not to start. The firmware is written for you and the steps are numbered in order. Every build carries a difficulty rating from 1 to 5, and the easy end is chosen to need no soldering, so you can filter the Market down to what you can actually finish.
